- Stephen Ecotone Levesque Yay...been the subject over here for some time...we see the occasional bat...I did notice one living in the barn. We want to see more. Great article.
- Cheryl McLachlan Hhhmmm... as mosquitoes consider me their personal walking blood reservoir I should look at importing or at least encouraging bats - thanks for the article. :)
- Chris J. Slater Thanks Nicole Shaw for reminding me. In 1978 I bought almost 4 acres at Florence Lake in Langford, B.C. to go "back to the land". On the property were two natural ponds and I used to enjoy sitting and watching the dusk antics of the local bat population naturally feeding on flying insects, primarily mosquitoes. http://en.wikipedia.org/
wiki/ List_of_mammals_of_British_ Columbia has a very good listing and information about the mammals of B.C. Destruction of habitat? Eventually I needed to sell this property, It is now called Florence Lake Estates, the ponds filled in and townhouses and SFD cover the land with their monoculture lawns...thanks in part to me, as you'll see how my "development" of that property proceeded at http:// chrisjslater.blogspot.ca/ 2011/07/thats-life.html 49 minutes ago · · - Chris J. I would rather build bat boxes for my repentance, thanks! More useful info about Bats and the Pacific Northwest...http:// www.batsnorthwest.org/ bat_house_central.html. Also be sure to go to their plans for a Rocket-Box Bat House http:// www.batsnorthwest.org/ rocketbox_plans.pdf. I'll get right at it! This winter? Hmm, don't even see the carnivorous yellow jacket wasps this year... http://en.wikipedia.org/ wiki/Yellow_jacket The mosquitoes are a family of small, midge-like flies: the Culicidae.
